【摘要】:Thisguideassistsusersindesignanddevelopmentofpackagingintendedfortheprotectionofgoodswhiletheyareintransitfrompointoforigintofinaldestination.Byfollowingallstepsofthisguide,userswillbeassuredthatthemostimportantfactorsareincludedinpackagedesign.Insomecases,thesequenceofstepsmaybechanged,andoftenthestepsmayoccursimultaneouslywithconcurrentworkactivities.Thedesignprocessfocusesonprotectionfromhazardsofhandling,storage,andshippingwhilerecognizingtheeconomicsofallotherfacetsofdistribution,includingpackagingmaterialsandlabor,andtransportation.Intransportpackaging,distributionisgenerallydefinedasinclusionofhandling,storage,andtransportationfactors.1.1Thisguidecoversanapproachtodesignofpackagingfordistributinggoodsthroughthehazardsofhandling,storage,andtransportation.1.2Theprincipalcontentofthisguideistheidentificationofthekeystepsinvolvedindevelopmentoftransportpackages,includingshippingcontainers,interiorprotectivepackaging,andunitloads.Itisrecognizedthatactualusageandapplicationtoindividualdesignprojectsmayvaryappreciablywithoutdiminishingthevalueoftheprocess.Consultwithapackagingprofessionalwheneverneeded.1.3Thisguideisnotintendedfordesignofprimarypackagingunlesstheprimarypackageisplannedforuseasashippingcontainer.1.4Theuserofthisguidemustbeawareofthecarrierrulesregardingpackagingforshipmentviaeachmodeoftransportationinwhichthetransportpackagemaymove,suchastheNationalMotorFreightClassification(less-thantruckload)andtheUniformFreightClassification(railroad).Forhazardousmaterialspackaging,thepackagingmustperformtotherequirementsoftheapplicablemodalregulationslistedinSection2.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
